Hopax is a manufacturer and supplier of PIPES (CAS 5625-37-6), a zwitterionic biological buffer often used as a buffering agent in biological and biochemical research.

 

Uses of PIPES Buffer:

  • Used for protein purification.
  • Used in chromatography.
  • In personal care and cosmetic applications, Pipes functions as a skin desquamation agent and a cream composition.
  • Similarly to Mes Buffer and Mops Buffer (also manufactured by Hopax), this Good's Buffer lacks the capability to form a complex with most metal ions, therefore it is recommended to be used as a noncoordinating buffer in solutions with metal ions.
  • Pipes contains two sulfate groups and is capable of exchanging a proton from each group, allowing it to buffer at approximately half the concentration of Hepes Buffer.

Solubility in water: (Compare with other buffers)

  • Not very soluble in water. It becomes soluble when the pH gets higher than 7 (and it is converted to the salt form).
