Hopax is a manufacturer and supplier of CHAPS (CAS 75621-03-3), a zwitterionic detergent widely used for protein preparation, solubilization and separation.
Uses of CHAPS detergent:
- CHAPS is a non-denaturing detergent for the solubilization of membrane proteins and breaking protein-protein interactions. The structure of this surfactant combines the useful properties of both the sulfobetaine-type and the bile salt detergents.
- Suitable for protein solubilization for isoelectric focusing (IEF).
- Commonly used for non-denaturing IEF.
- Used in two-dimensional electrophoresis.
- Works as a non-toxic stabilizing agent for growth factors.
Remarks:
- Concentrations between 2-4% (w/v) are typically used in an IEF gel.
- With the characteristics of small micellar molecular weight and high critical micelle concentration (6-10 mM), CHAPS can be removed from the samples by dialysis.
